From shoe chaos to a little more order in the hallway
We've all been there: a pile of shoes by the door and no idea where they should go. Here's what works for us.

Every single winter, the hallway ends up in the same state: three pairs of boots, two pairs of sneakers, a pair of sandals refusing to be put away, and a layer of dust. It's not a styling problem. It's just an everyday problem.
This is what helps at our place.
Cap the number Make a rule: max eight pairs in the hallway. The rest go in the cupboard. It sounds banal, but it's the only rule that works.
Use a vintage bench A low wooden bench under the coat hooks gathers the shoes visually. We sometimes have small shelf-benches from the 60s — drop by.
Put something beautiful on top An old ceramic vase or a small table lamp on a shelf above the bench makes the whole hallway feel less like a corridor and more like a room.
It's not a system. It's just turning the mess into part of something that's also nice to look at.
